本日は鈴鹿市にありますメリーウエストイングリッシュ旭が丘校のクリスティン先生よりです。

Every year I look forward to seeing how the Rabbit class (K3) students respond to moving up to BOOK 1 (gr1. and gr2 class). The children that I have helped to start learning English through Sing and Play classes now have the task of more serious learning with three different textbooks and most of all big kids tables and chairs! Usually, the parents are surprised with the appearance of the big table and chairs and the kids look so small sitting in them. The class time moves from 40 minutes to 50 minutes with weekly homework and grammar practice. The “hello” and “goodbye” songs are gone and children are now responsible for sitting correctly and writing notes in their notebooks. Here at MWE, we teach classroom manners as well as English. Some parents express doubts that their child can do it after seeing the relaxed atmosphere of the kindergarten classes.

 

毎年私はラビットクラスの年長さんの生徒様がbook1（小学1～2年クラス）に進んだとき、どの様に変わられるかを楽しみにしています。歌ったり、遊んだりしながら英語を学ぶことを始めたお子様たちが、3冊の異なったテキストと今までと違う、大きな机と椅子でより真剣に学ぶ事になります。

たいてい保護者様達は大きな机と椅子に小さなお子様が座ってみえるのを見て驚かれます。

クラスの時間は40分から50分に伸び、毎週の宿題と文法の課題があります。

「Hello」や「Goodbye」の歌を歌うことは終わり、きちんと座ってノートに書くことを学びます。

私たちメリーウエストイングリッシュでは英語と同様にクラスルームでのマナーも学びます。保護者様達の中にはお子様たちが幼稚園クラスのリラックスした雰囲気の後に、きちんと出来るのかを心配される方もいらっしゃいます。

 

But every year the kids take on the task wholeheartedly. They love the new independence of the textbooks and the serious study with homework. This means they are growing up like the other “big kids” that they know. Within the first month, the children love to commiserate with each other in the class: “Ah, this is so difficult…” or “Homework again??” but it is in this shared experience that helps them to grow together and bond. I can tell by the excitement they have to check the homework and receive new homework. These expressions of exasperation have been said by their parents and it makes them feel like “grown ups” to take this next step.

 

しかし心配は要りません。お子様たちは真剣に取り組んでみえます。お子様たちは新しいテキストの雰囲気と宿題が大好きです。

この事は上級生の生徒様に段々、近づいていることを意味します。

最初の1か月、お子様達はちょっとお互いに同情するような感じです。「これは難しすぎる、、、。」とか「また宿題？？」などの様に。しかしこの様な共有の経験を通して一緒に成長し絆を作ります。

私はワクワクしながらお子様達に宿題をチェックしてもらい、また新しい宿題を出します。

 

Soon first time parents become surprised at how quickly the children transition to this new level of learning and how fast the students improve. This K3 to Elementary Book 1 is often my favorite level to teach because I can see how much my class makes a difference. But we still make time to play at the end of every lesson because all of us parents don’t want the kids to grow up too fast, do we? ;)

 

すぐに保護者様はお子様たちの学びの新しいレベルへ移り、いかに早く生徒様が上達するかに驚かれます。年長クラスからbook1クラスへの移行はいつも私が教える中で大好きなレベルです。なぜならばいかにクラスの違いがあるかが分かるからです。その様な中でも毎回のレッスンではプレイタイムを設けています。

お子様たちが時には真剣に、時には楽しく英語を学んでいただけるようなお一層、努力いたします。
