Kristin from Merry West English Asahigaoka 

Last month we had a chance to enjoy craft time together with the preschool classes. Summer time is so hot in Japan that the kids will sometimes come to class tired and grumpy. It is important that we vary the activities so that the students look forward to coming to MWE each week. Our focus in class is, of course, to teach English but it is also important to have a couple of classes in the school year that build the bond with the teacher and other classmates. I like to schedule craft or game days twice a year for this reason. It gives the kids a break and a chance to just have fun for the entire lesson. We also have Halloween and Christmas week as well for the students to have a chance to be introduced to cultural activities from other countries that they might not otherwise be able to enjoy in Japan.

メリーウエストイングリッシュ旭が丘校のクリスティンです。

先月、私たちは幼児クラスでクラフトを作る機会がありました。日本の夏はとても暑いので時々、子供たちはクラスに来るとき少し疲れていたり、機嫌が悪かったりします。毎週生徒様がメリーウエストイングリッシュへワクワクしながら来ていただくためには様々なアクティビティをすることが大事です。もちろん、英語を教えるのが一番大事なのですがクラスのお友達や先生との絆を高めるためにはアクティビティが大事です。私はクラフトとゲームの日を2回、年間で持ちます。子供たちに少しレッスンから離れて楽しむことが出来ます。私たちはまたハロウィーンパーティやクリスマス会で日本では味わえない他国の文化を紹介することが出来ます。

The craft I chose this time was Glitter Globes. We used plastic containers filled with many different kinds of glitter and a glow stick to create a night light for the kids to use in their rooms. The kids accessorized the container before choosing their glitter and glow sticks. We had lots of fun creating “mini tornadoes” in the containers. Kids love to play with glitter and so do I!

今回、私が選んだクラフトは「グリッターグローブ」です。様々な種類の光るスティックをプラスティックの透明ボトルに入れ、子供たちの部屋で暗がりでライトとして使えるようにしました。子供たちは光るスティックを入れる前にプラスティックボトルを飾り付けました。「ミニ竜巻」をボトルの中で作るのがすごく楽しかったです。みんな子の光るボトルで遊ぶのが大好きです！
