今年も新たに体験生向けキャンペーンをスタートしました。 私たちの学校周辺のコミュニティで大ヒットになりました。 私たちはほぼ毎週新入生を迎え、学校や教室を紹介できることをとても楽しみにしています。 先生との英語のレッスンを楽しみに教室に入ったお母さんと子どもたちの興奮は、私たち全員をリフレッシュさせてくれました。 新しい家族と出会い、一緒に勉強するのはとても楽しいです。 クラスの規模も大きくなり、学校はより活気に満ちています。 子どもたちは新しいクラスメートと出会ったり、一緒に遊んだりすることを楽しみにしています。

 

  特に旭ヶ丘では未就学児クラスが大幅に増えています。 これらのクラスは、楽しく英語を学ぶことに重点を置いています。 私たちは未就学児を対象に、子どもたちがリラックスできる方法で英語と外国文化を紹介することを目指しています。 言語が完全に理解できない教室に突然いるのはストレスになるかもしれません。 今日は就学前年齢のレベルの違いについて説明したいと思います。

 

パンダ (K1: 3～4 歳)

このレベルでは、クラスの目的は、単純に子供たちに楽しい方法で英語を紹介し、子供たちが毎週クラスに来るのが楽しみになるような快適でフレンドリーな雰囲気を作り出すことです。 外国の先生との初めての交流となることも多いので、子どもたちが信頼関係を築き、楽しみながら外国人の先生を怖がらないように教育する文化交流にも力を入れています。 子どもたちは、「私はユウトです。」のような簡単なフレーズ以外の語彙のほとんどを保持することは期待されていません。 私は3です。」 こんにちは、ハッピーなどの頻繁に使用される基本的な単語、色、数字、形も含まれています。 教科書は Maple Leaf Learning の Sing and Play 教科書に基づいており、クラスの焦点は英語で歌ったり踊ったりするアクティビティに基づいています。 この教科書は教師が保管しており、この年齢層の子供たちは授業時間内にすべてのアクティビティを完了できるため、事前にすべてのアクティビティを準備できます。 教科書は未使用ページがあれば年度末に保護者に返却します。 この年齢層の子供たちは多くの刺激を必要とするため、クラスでは子供たちの集中力を維持するために、アクティビティ間の移動が迅速に行われます。 この年齢層では、子供たちはまだそのスキルを理解していないため、基本的なABCの音をリズムに合わせて教えません。 英語のスキルは主に、リズミカルな暗記からの歌やチャントを通じて表現されます。 また、子どもたちが今後の成長に備えられるよう、教室でのマナーも指導します。

 

コアラ: (K2: 4～5 歳)

このレベルでは、クラスの目的は、楽しい雰囲気の中で仲間や教師と交流しながら、自然な発音と教師の後の正しい繰り返しを学ぶことになります。 生徒には基本的に、自分の教材に責任を持ち、将来のレベルへの準備と基本的な文字/単語の認識を練習するために、このレベルの教科書「DORA で英語を学ぶ」が与えられます。 この本で紹介されているすべての語彙を覚えている必要はありません。

 

ただし、より複雑な単語やフレーズがクラスに追加され、正確な繰り返しと集中力を高めるために長めのリスニング部分に重点が置かれます。 このクラスは、この年齢層の子供たちがより長く座り、運動機能をより高度に制御し、母国語で個人としてよりよく自分自身を表現できるという点で、PANDA から一歩進んだものです。 この年齢の子供は、より多くの鉛筆を扱うことができるようになりますが、単純な線や波線以上のものを作成することはできません。 この年齢層がABCを書くことに重点を置くのではなく、基本的なトレースと習字に重点を置くのはこのためです。 これは、子供たちが自分の筆箱を持参する必要がなく、子供たちの興味を保つために鮮やかな色を提供するクレヨンを使用する必要がない理由でもあります。

 

  ほとんどの工作は事前に完成し、子供たちに色付けや接着などの最終段階を完了してもらいます。 これは、教師がレッスンのテーマと毎月の歌に必要な語彙に集中できるようにするためです。 このレベルでは名前を書く練習をしますが、子供たちがその書き方を覚えられるのは翌年までです。 このクラスの核となるのは、今でも歌とダンスをベースにした活気のあるクラスであり、積極的に聞くことを促進するテキストも追加されています。

 

ウサギ：（幼稚園3年生：5～6歳）

このレベルでは、このクラスの目的は、追加のフレーズや歌を加えて、ABC の文字と音を学ぶことです。 この年齢の子供たちは、より長く座って鉛筆をより注意深く扱えるようになるため、初めてABCの書き方も学びます。 ドーラの生徒用教科書は、アルファベットを完全に書き終えることができるように、フォニックスと読み書きの教科書と続きます。 また、翌年の初等クラスに備えて、家庭でこれらの文字を繰り返し練習するために、生徒にはより難易度の高い宿題が与えられます。

生徒は自分の感情を表現するためのより多くの方法、追加のフラッシュカード、および表現を扱う際のより高い難易度を教えられます。 このレベルでは、生徒は気が散ることなく長時間座ることができるように、クラスで使用する曲は最小限に抑えられます。 この年齢の生徒は、年間を通じてクラスの語彙のほとんどを覚えており、自分の名前の書き方、ABC、感情の表現、形、色、より高度な日常語彙を理解して学年を終えることが期待されます。

 

しかし、このクラスの主な目的は楽しみながら学ぶことです。 未就学児は、英語は退屈でも難しすぎるものでもなく、クラスメートとの友好的な雰囲気の中で積極的な強化を通じて学ぶことができるスキルであることを理解する必要があります。

This year we started a new campaign for trial students. It has become a hit in the the communities around our schools! We are very excited to welcome new students almost every week and show them our schools and classrooms. The excitement of the mothers and children when they enter the classroom to enjoy an English lesson with our teachers has refreshed us all. It is so fun to meet new families and study together. The classes have become bigger and the schools more lively. Children enjoy meeting new classmates and playing together.

 

 Especially in Asahigaoka, we have seen a big increase in the preschool age classes. These classes focus on learning English in a fun way. We aim in the preschool age to introduce English and foreign cultures in a way that makes children feel relaxed. It can be stressful to suddenly be in a classroom where you do not understand the language fully. Today I would like to explain the differences of the levels of our preschool ages.

 

PANDA (K1: 3-4 yrs)

At this level the purpose of the class should be to simply introduce the children to English in a fun way and create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere that makes the kids excited to come to class each week. Often times this is the first interaction with a teacher from another country so we are also focusing on a cultural exchange where children are taught not fear the foreign teachers through building trust and having fun. The children are not expected to retain most of the vocabulary other than simple phrases such as “I’m Yuto. I’m 3.” as well as basic frequently used words such as: hello, happy as well as colours, numbers and shapes. The textbook is based on a Sing and Play textbook from Maple Leaf Learning and focus of the class is activity based singing and dancing in English. This textbook is kept by the teachers so they can prepare all activities ahead of time as children at this age group will be able to complete them within class time. Textbooks will be returned to the parents at the end of the year if there are any unused pages. Children of this age group need a lot of stimulation so the class moves quickly between activities to keep children engaged. In this age group we do not teach the basic ABC sounds in a rhythm as the children cannot grasp that skill yet. English skills are mostly expressed through song and chant from rhythmic memorization. We also teach classroom manners to prepare the children for the coming years.

 

KOALAS: (K2: 4-5yrs)

At this level, the purpose of the class will be more for natural pronunciation and correct repetition after the teacher while still interacting with their peers and teacher in a fun atmosphere. Students are given a textbook LEARN ENGLISH WITH DORA at this level basically to get into the practice of being responsible for their own materials, preparation for future levels and basic letter/word recognition. There are not expected to remember all the vocabulary presented in the book. 

 

However, more complicated words and phrases are added to the class with heavier focus put on correct repetition and longer listening portions to improve concentration. This class is a step up from PANDA in that children of this age group can sit longer, control their motor functions to a higher degree and express themselves better as individuals in their native language. Children of this age will be able to handle more pencil work but will not be able to produce much more than simple lines and squiggles. This is why this age group does not focus on the writing of ABCs but rather basic tracing and penmenship. This is also why their are not required to bring their own pencil case and to use the crayons provided for their lively colours to keep the interest of the children.

 

 Most crafts will be completed ahead of time and given to the children to complete the final stages such as colouring and gluing. This is so the teacher can focus on the theme of the lesson and the vocabulary necessary for the monthly songs. We practice writing our names in this level but children are not expected to be able to memorize how to do this until the following year. At it’s core, this class is still a lively class based on singing and dancing with the textbook added in to encourage active listening.

 

RABBITS: (K3: 5-6yrs)

At this level, the purpose of this class is to learn the letters and sounds of the ABCs along with additional phrases and songs. Children will also learn how to write the ABCs for the first time as at this age the children have the ability to sit longer and be more careful with their pencils. The student textbook of Dora is continued with the Phonics and Literacy textbook to be able to accomplish a complete writing of the alphabet. Also, students are given homework of a higher difficulty in order to repeat these letters at home for drilling to prepare for Elementary classes the following year. 

 

Students are taught more ways to express their emotions as well as additional flashcards and a higher degree of difficulty when working with phraseology. At this level, students have minimal songs for the class in preparation for them being able to sit for longer periods of time without being distracted. Students of this age can remember most of the class vocabulary throughout the year and are expected to finish the year knowing how to write their names, the ABCs, express emotions, know shapes, colours and more advanced daily vocabulary. 

 

However, the main purpose of this class is to learn while having fun. Preschoolers need to see that English isn’t boring or too difficult, but is a skill they can learn through positive reinforcement in a friendly atmosphere with their classmates.
